PHOTOGRAPHIC COURSES 2009 With Richard Greenly

Our photographic courses have caught your imagination and we have been lecturing to full houses for five years now. I am going to have to form an old student's reunion club!

Every year we add an extra day or two. This year by popular request we have set aside a few days in early in the summer holidays to enable school aged children to attend both a Basic or Advanced course. Please check the course dates and status and if you would like to enroll yourself or your children please complete our online course booking form.

At present we offer three types of course:-

BASIC COURSES
  • A one day Basic Course, which is designed for total amateurs, ideally with a 35mm digital or film SLR camera. If you feel you fall into this bracket please see full details of the Basic Course and then check the course dates and status. This is the same course we are now offering to teenagers in the summer holidays.
ADVANCED COURSES
  • A one day Advanced Course, which is designed for those who have attended the basic course and those of you who are able to use your cameras in the manual mode. If you fall into this bracket please see full details of the Advanced Course and then check the course dates and status. This is the same course we are now offering to teenagers in the summer holidays.
A PHOTOGRAPHIC WEEK IN SOUTHERN SPAIN
  • The Basic and Advanced Courses are combined during this glorious week's holiday at Los Altos de Almuña, Gaucin, Andalucia in Southern Spain. Again this course if for total amateurs of all ages, ( get a group of likeminded friends togetherand make a week of it). We study photography for a few hours every morning and then soak up the House party atmosphere and facilities offered by Hugh and Jane Arbuthnot who have run this very special and comfortable retreat for years. If you like the idea of a break in February/March please see full details of the Photographic week in Spain and then check the course dates and status.

If you now wish to book any of the courses please complete our course booking form or give us a call on 01488685256 for more information.

BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE

This is a ONE DAY course and runs from 9.30am to 4pm plus an extra hour from 4-5pm for those who wish to stay on for a bit of private tuition.

Dates for 2009 are now published and can be found by visiting course dates and status.

The cost of our courses in 2009 £175.00. This price includes a very good lunch with wine, all tuition, a set of notes and VAT. Real cost of tuition is therefore £135.00 per head.

This course takes place at our new Hungerford studios and is run by Richard Greenly. Visit our location to pin point us.

This course is designed for the member of your family who inevitably ends up holding the family camera at that vital family moment. It is a course for family snappers not David Bailey's. If you fall into this category and have a least one serviceable ear and one serviceable eye, I can improve your photography by 100% in just one day. Attendance on this course will greatly increase the amount of enjoyment you get from your photography. It will also enable you to read and understand your camera user manual!

The ideal camera for this course is a 35mm SLR, either film or digital. Compact cameras owners are very welcome and will get a great deal out of the day but there will however be quite a lot of knob twiddling practice for those with SLR Digital or Film cameras.

I keep the day as informal as possible and the talk is accompanied by a slide show and a full set of comprehensive notes.

ADVANCED PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE

This is a ONE DAY course and runs from 9.30am to 4pm plus an extra hour from 4-5pm for those who wish to stay on for a bit of private tuition.

Dates for 2009 are now published and can be found by visiting course dates and status.

The cost of our courses in 2009 is £175.00. This price includes a very good lunch with wine, all tuition, a full set of notes and VAT. Real cost of tuition is therefore £135.00 per head.

This course takes place at my home and garden, 8 miles south of Hungerford. A map will be included with all joining instructions.

This course is for amateurs and is ideal for those who have already attended our Basic Course and those of you who are able to use your cameras in the manual mode. Skilled amateurs will also gain a lot from this course as we will be taking photographs in situations you will not necessarily have used before.

The day will start with a short revision in the classroom on the basics such as exposure, light and the various modes on SLR cameras. The rest of the day will be spent using your camera on location in a garden and house setting. You will come across all the problems you face while photographing at home and learn how to overcome them or make the best of them.

We will go through exposures and light, choosing locations in and out, posing, candid shots, handling the subject and handling the camera quickly while on the move. You will set up and take lots of different shots with your own camera and we then talk through the results.

The ideal camera for this course is a 35mm SLR camera either film or digital. These cameras normally have interchangeable lenses although extra lenses are not necessarily a requirement for this course. Compact camera owners will also gain a lot from the technique side of the course but I have to say quite a lot of our time of is spent on the settings of the SLR, Digital and Film cameras.

This will be a thoroughly informal, friendly, practical and hands on day. I recommend it.

PHOTOGRAPHIC WEEK IN SPAIN
WITH RICHARD GREENLY

HOW MUCH, WHERE AND WHEN?

This one week holiday will run from the 28th Feb to 7th March 2009. The cost per person sharing is €1850.00 (£1480.00) excluding air fair which is approximately £100.00. There is a single occupancy charge of €225.00 (£180.00). Otherwise everything except one lunch and green fees is included.

This holiday takes place at Los Altos de Almuña which is the fabulous home of Hugh and Jane Arbuthnot who are famous for hosting the most wonderfully comfortable, gastronomic and relaxing house parties you will ever have come across.

This beautiful farmhouse sits high in the Andalusian hills near the Moorish town of Gaucin overlooking the distant coasts of Southern Spain and North Africa. The house has 7 very comfortable double bedrooms all with well appointed en suite bathrooms. There is a large garden with quiet corners, wonderful views all around and an unobtrusive swimming pool. We all eat together at Almuña and it is a very exciting experience as Jane not only likes us to eat well but she also wants us to experience food that is home cooked, using fresh and organic ingredients together with some outstanding Spanish wines.

Almuña is a glorious place to find peace and quietness in some of the most beautiful country imaginable. On the farm there is tennis, riding and some lovely walks. 45 minutes drive from Almuña there are at Sotogrande on the Mediterranean coast, 8 excellent golf courses including Valderrama. We can organise tee times and club hire on as many days as golfers wish to play. View some photographs of Almuña

MUST I BE A GOOD PHOTOGRAPHER?

Absolutely not, last year we had a mix of total beginners and a few more experienced amateurs and no one felt out of their depth. We want this to be a holiday for amateur photographers and there non-photographic partners and to that end we have worked out a flexible programme for both photographers and non-photographers alike.

PHOTOGRAPHY

At Almuña Richard will hold 5 informal 3 hour morning lectures, demonstrations and practical lessons. The ideal camera is an SLR, either digital or film and Richard will take you slowly through how your own camera works and what every knob and button does. Once you have mastered your camera he will show you the art of portraiture, landscapes, still life, flowers and night time photography. This he does very thoroughly and in a way that is readily understandable by all and always mixed with an enormous amount of good humour and fun. The afternoons are free but can be used to practice the morning’s work or join in the alternative activities. There will be two short evening workshops, one on night time photography and one on the use of flash. The photographic locations will vary from the area surrounding Almuña to sites further a field, finishing with a picnic lunch.

WHO IS RICHARD GREENLY?

Good question! Richard is a professional portrait photographer of some 26 years standing. He has run a successful photographic business from Hungerford in Berkshire for most of this time. Here he has departments for portrait, architectural and fine art photography. He personally specialises in private and commercial portraiture at his client’s homes and is much in demand in the UK, USA and the Far East.

For five years Richard has been running extremely popular Basic and Advanced photographic courses from his studios in Hungerford. He likes to approach the subject in a thoroughly down to earth and non technical way. He is convinced that once you know how to work your camera properly (not a difficult feat) you will be capable of taking great photographs time and time again.
